By GARVIN RON LOPEZ
COMMITTED to getting youth ready for life, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) held its annual sports and family day, on September 9, at the Trinidad and Tobago Prisons Service Sports Complex, Golden Grove Road, Arouca.

Twelve hundred trainees of the current “cycle 0602” participated in a day of sporting activities and family unity.

The 0602 class, comprised of teams representing eight regions: Northeast, North-Central, Northwest, Central, Southeast, South-Central, Southwest and Tobago.

Among the days sporting activities were track and field, sack and chariot races and the ever-popular tug-o-war.

Prizes, sponsored by local companies, were awarded to all winners.

“In an atmosphere of keen competitive rivalry between the respective regional teams, I encourage all participants to compete with exuberance,” Lt. Col. Neil H. Bennett, Director of Youth Programmes for the CCC urged.

The colonel encouraged his charges, “to remember your code of conduct, reflecting mutual respect and sportsmanship, while attempting to achieve the highest awards attainable in the different events.”

The Ministry of National Security and the Defence Force view the CCC as a feeder programme for the military and will continue to lend its full support to the organisation’s programmes.
