to getting youth ready for life, the Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC) held its annual sports and family day, on September 9, at
the Trinidad and Tobago Prisons Service Sports Complex, Golden Grove
Road, Arouca.
Twelve hundred trainees of the current “cycle 0602”
participated in a day of sporting activities and family unity.
The 0602 class, comprised of teams representing eight regions: Northeast,
North-Central, Northwest, Central, Southeast, South-Central, Southwest
and Tobago.
Among the days sporting activities were track and field, sack and
chariot races and the ever-popular tug-o-war.
Prizes, sponsored by local companies, were awarded to all winners.
“In an atmosphere of keen competitive rivalry between the
respective regional teams, I encourage all participants to compete
with exuberance,” Lt. Col. Neil H. Bennett, Director of Youth
Programmes for the CCC urged.
The colonel encouraged his charges, “to remember your code
of conduct, reflecting mutual respect and sportsmanship, while attempting
to achieve the highest awards attainable in the different events.”
The Ministry of National Security and the Defence Force view the
CCC as a feeder programme for the military and will continue to
lend its full support to the organisation’s programmes.

Col. Roland Maunday, Acting Chief of Defence Staff added: “When
the CCC’s trainees come to us, there is already a measure
of discipline and seriousness on their part.”
Among the dignitaries attending the sports and family day were Programme
Co-ordinator, Major Sherwin Stephenson, Divisional Manager/Operations
Games Manager Sub-Lt. Aldon Jasper, the late musician Andre Tanker’s
daughter Zo-Mari Tanker and colleague Ryan Isava of the advertising
agency, JOOP Advertising Limited. |
