MANAGER
of the St. Michael’s School for Boys, Alison Salandy, could
not talk with TnT Mirror, when we telephoned her on Thursday afternoon.
Instead, she politely referred us to the Communications Officer
in the Ministry of Social Development, Carol Ann McKenzie.
McKenzie, however was a different kettle of fish.
At first, when I explained some of the complaints to her, in a brief
telephone conversation, she interjected a comment that most of the
complaints against the school have been “in the Mirror.”
When I drew her attention to the fact that the Guardian also carried
an expose a few weeks aback, she confessed that she did not see
that, but later retracted by saying that the Guardian did not call
the school’s name.
But in reference to our report of rampant buggery she dismissed
me with real “attitude.”
“Well, in instances of allegations of sexual abuse, there
is a set of protocols where a report must be made to the police
after which a medical examination will be initiated,” she
said seeming cold and unconcerned.
McKenzie listened to the other allegations, took two telephone contact
numbers and promised to get back to us!
It would be really good if the cops can initiate medical examinations
on all the boys at the institution to verify our claims! |
