THE
Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPost) has apologised to
constituents of Prime Minister’s Patrick Manning San Fernando
East constituency, after an official of the company labelled the
constituents “squatters”.
Nataki Kerr of TTPost Marketing and Communication department, in
a release, said the term ‘squatter’ was used as an adjective
to describe location and was not meant to be derogatory.
The release stated: “We apologise for any negative interpretation
and would like to assure the public that the corporation places
its customers first.”
Kerr said: “In this instance, the courier attempted to obtain
directions to deliver the package to the customer.”
She admitted that TTPost, in its partnership with Telecommunication
Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) for its mobile migration
project, delivers handsets to all areas of the country through their
courier service.
The disturbed constituents, who were awaiting delivery of new phones,
cried discrimination after the official made the remark and referred
to the area as a high-risk one.
The story was carried in Friday Mirror June 9.
The phones were actually delivered on June 7 at a location in St.
Clements that is some two miles away from the constituents’
Thompson Garden, Tarouba South homes. |
