Now, we have heard the Leader of the Opposition make a statement
that a cabal-selected screening committee and the National Executive
will select the candidates for the upcoming General Elections, and
this is what the whole confrontation and division is all about.
It is absolutely amazing that for the last 17 years of the existence
of the UNC, the Political Leader had the final say and final endorsement
to select the candidates for any election, which is the correct
procedure, as is also done by the People’s National Movement
(PNM) and any other political party that is not controlled by a
cabal who have their own personal and selfish agendas.
It is the fear by the frivolous four and a few others that when
the music stops, they would not have a chair to sit on, so they
have been doing everything to frustrate Winston Dookeran to step
down.
Why? Because of the fear they have that they would not be selected
because of the Political Leader’s policy of taking a slate
of politicians into the next elections who are politically clean,
transparent, have ethics and do not bring any unwanted political
baggage which may affect the chances of the party winning the election,
inclusive of no tea cups, no dog rice or making accusations in the
Upper House on citizens in the country which tarnish their image
(and with absolutely no foundation or evidence but is continually
done because he has the cloak of Parliamentary privileges to do
his dirty work and does nothing more than make the party look bad).
Simply put, there is no way that any right-thinking individual can
expect a party to select candidates and the Political Leader does
not have the final say whether they are to run for a seat or not,
and the reason is simple.
In a General Election, the Political Leader whose party won the
most seats is appointed as Prime Minister.
Now what this cabal is trying to say is that they want to “impose”
a slate of candidates on the Political Leader, upon which if the
party wins the election, then the Prime Minister is now faced with
MPs/ministers and worse yet, Members of his Cabinet of which he
had no say to select, regardless of whether he saw them fit and
capable to run the government alongside him.
A Political Leader and a party aspiring to be in government must
have the foresight to know that the Political Leader who becomes
Prime Minister must be the one to select the candidates of which
he is of the belief that these individuals will make capable Ministers
and members of his Cabinet.
Failure to do so, and operating on the clandestine concept by the
frivolous four cabal will mean that the Cabinet can then control
the Prime Minister, as they can simply tell him, “You did
not appoint me here, so don’t tell me what to do,” and
we once again may face another case of MP dissidents as seen in
2001, which brought down the Government.
The Political Leader not having the final say in the selection of
candidates in the General Election will ensure that exactly what
is happening in the UNC Executive will take place in the Cabinet
if the UNC wins, with a cabal Cabinet also telling the Prime Minister
what colour shirt to wear, who to speak to and what meetings to
attend.
And I, for one, can tell you that I would not advise any right-thinking
citizen to vote for a party who intends to have a Government in
a democratic country run in this manner. |
