Collins reprimanded

WEST INDIES bowler Pedro Collins, who bagged four wickets in the first innings of the second Test match against the visiting Indian side, has been reprimanded for “excessive appealing.”

Collins, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC), pleaded guilty to the charge to ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe in a hearing after play concluded in St. Lucia last Sunday.

Collins was found to have breached 1.5 of the ICC Code, or “the practice of celebrating a dismissal before the decision has been given.”

His reaction related to the dismissal of India’s V.V.S. Laxman last Saturday, the first day of the second Test match.

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Simon Taufel, Asad Rauf and third umpire Steve Bucknor.

India’s Virender Sehwag was fined 20 per cent of his match fee following a similar incident in the first Test in Antigua but Crowe explained that Collins was not fined as well since, “In this instance the batsman appeared to start to walk after getting a healthy edge to the ball before the umpire had a chance to make a decision.”
