According to HDC, it is an area with enormous commercial potential
as it forms a continuation of the city core and possesses a diverse
assortment of activities benefiting from spill over commercial pedestrian
movement.
“However, with narrow streets, limited parking and the lack
of other basic facilities (e.g. garbage disposal collection areas)
and with the interruption of large blocks of purely residential
apartments, the full potential of its economic capabilities is not
realised,” added the HDC.
“The building stock within this area is also very aged despite
its fairly good appearance.
“However, the continuous maintenance and retrofitting that
is required to keep them in satisfactory living condition will be
significant.”
The HDC has also being running a media campaign to drive home the
point.
