German ambassador visits Angostura

HIS Excellency Dr. Helmut Ohlraun, German Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, visited the House of Angostura recently to see the museum and the distillery and to meet with the company’s executives.

He took the opportunity to present Gabriel Faria, executive director of marketing, with a framed certificate of the “Rum of the Year Award” which was bestowed on the company’s product Angostura 1919 by Mundus Vini in Germany.

It is coincidental that His Excellency chose such time to visit the company to gain first hand knowledge of the German history behind its signature product, Angostura aromatic bitters.

It was a German doctor who first invented the product in Venezuela and his family brought it to Trinidad in the early 1900s.

The ambassador was intrigued by his findings during the tour conducted by Glenn Davis.

It actually was the last tour that Glenn Davis would be conducting as he retired from Angostura that day.

With the World Cup fever around the corner, the topic of discussion among the executives at the lunch table was obvious and Lawrence Duprey who joined them for lunch, shared his view on the journey to World Cup by the Soca Warriors.

The ambassador was presented with the company’s international range of rums -- Angostura 1919, butterfly premium white rum and seven-year-old dark rum -- which will be officially launched at the parties in Dortmund and Munich, in Germany, being held on June 10 and 17 respectively.
