The Six Y.O. Ichiban beats the younger Four
Y.O. Rusalka across the line to win the race.

THE maidens all ran over the 1,100m in the first event of the day, in the Optional Claiming for Three Y.O. and over, with Ronald Maharaj’s Sara’s Song ridden by Joshua Stephens heading the pack of Peace of Mind, then Dennyhasaglock to share the $20,400 purse.

The second as the previous was just 100m and $1,200 more, and with Rajesh Singh in the irons led Ichiban to its second win for the current year.

And in the third run off, trainer Gary Hearn had good reasons to be ecstatic; the horses under his charge came in one two three, Bon Voyage, Sure Wager and Living in Hope fought to an exciting finish, having failed in the last five of their past races.

Then with 1,750m to cover Wilmer Galviz had Integreat out of the box early with only El Guerrouj having the jump ahead, which went to naught in the end as Galviz saw the winners circle getting first prize. Again on the sands in the Fifth for WI bred Three Y.O., the Rajpaul Rajkumar faced the cameras once more, this time on All for Java the favourite, Smoothanalert managed to squeeze into second position.

The time of 1:07.2 was recorded for Sunset and Sheldon Rodrigo in the Optional Claiming 1,100m for the purse of $25,200; Honor Bound the Nine Y.O. was followed by Born to Charm in third place.

Into the last 50m there came a race for second honours between Honor Bound, Born to Charm and Baby Mass, as Sunset had already established its win, they finished in that order.

Closing the day Nela Mohammed single win came on Centurion, pushing the race favourite Gilgal and Sheldon Rodrigo to a disap-pointing second.
