FIRST,
it was a little bacchanal in the run-up to last weekend’s
second annual “Soca for Summer” concert but now, following
its success, irate patrons have now renamed the event “No
Car for Summer”!
And that’s all because the much-touted door prize, a car,
is yet to be delivered and concerns are mounting even more as there
has been no word or even an apology coming from organisers about
the embarrassing situation.
Worse yet, they told TnT Mirror one week has already passed and
they don’t know how many more would do so before they hear
from organisers.
“That is really bad,” claimed one angry patron, “I
feel they want the car for themselves because I’m sure plenty
people lost their ticket stubs already.
“I went to the show not only because of the artistes advertised,
but because I felt I was in with a chance to win a car; and so was
everybody else in my posse.”
He said they had some early concerns as to whether or not there
was really a car to be won or if it was just a gimmick to pull patrons
to the concert at Queen’s Park Savannah because of the intensity
of the heat of the summer battle.
A war broke between George who owns 91.1 FM and Anthony Chow Lin
On, owner of 96.1FM and promoter of “Summer of One”
(both of whose concerts were held simultaneously at different venues)
as to who really had rights to promoting soca during summer time
in TnT.
He went on, “How come you could advertise a car as a door
prize to be won that night and not even come up on the stage to
say something about it?”
He noted that as the night wore on, they waited anxiously to hear
the deejay announce it was time to draw the door prize.
“But nothing happened and we left the fete really disappointed.”
He further told Mirror his posse of eight purchased tickets in advance.
“I also encouraged other friends to come along for the lime
because they could win a car.
“I think promoters take advantage of patrons.
“Even if they draw it now plenty people wouldn’t have
a chance again, as they can’t find their ticket stubs,”
he explained.
“On the night itself, it had plenty stubs on the ground, now
if they had drawn the thing the same night people would find their
stub one time.”
However, when contacted last Thursday afternoon, Soca for Summer
promoter calypsonian/businessman Iwer George told Mirror all was
not lost.
He didn’t say much except that, “We are now checking
out the tickets”.
When pressed for a time when it will be eventually drawn, he added,
“tell them to listen out on 91.1 FM and we will announce the
drawing”.
But even as Iwer gave his assurance to Soca for Summer fans, other
sources have revealed that the deal on the car was never finalised
although promoters had identified a possible car.
“If they really had a car for a prize, then why wasn’t
it on the stage that night?” asked a fan. |
