THE
entire entertainment industry is quietly asking questions about
the bad blood now flowing between two of TnT’s “big
men” in the business and their close associates!
It’s all happening in this rainy season, which has been declared
“summer” by the promoters.
They are fighting for the lucrative July/August “summer”
turf which sources say have already caused a major fallout between
the players in the industry.
The public spat is between soca entertainer/businessman Neil “Iwer”
George of Trini Bashment radio, Synergy TV/Xtatik’s Peter
C. Lewis and urban station 96.1 FM’s Anthony “Chinese
Laundry” Chow Lin, Elizabeth Montano mother of soca mega star
Machel Montano and Ellis Chow Lin On.
Two major fetes have been carded for the same day Saturday July
15, in one corner is Iwer’s “Soca for Summer”
and in the other is Laundry’s much-touted “Summer of
One Concerts”.
A running full page newspaper disclaimer signed by Liz Montano and
Ellis Chow Lin On, managers of Machel Montano and Shurwayne Winchester
is advising the public that the two top artistes will not be appearing
in Iwer’s “Soca for Summer Party”.
The full-page disclaimer has cautioned the rival promoter in the
strongest of language, setting the stage for the big war this “summer”
turf.
The annual Soca for Summer party which this year has been titled
“The King Kong of Concerts” is into its’ second
year and once again is carded for the concert capital Queen’s
Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
Last year thousands turned out to its first edition.
Also advertised for Iwer’s show but pulling out last minute
are Destra Garcia and Atlantik Iwer’s brother Naya George
and his band Invazion.
Sources told TnT Mirror other top artistes are also set to pull
out and perform instead at “Summers of One” with venue
yet to be announced.
The July 15 “Colours of We” is part of a trilogy of
concerts put on by Laundry, the first one “Watercolours”
kicks off this weekend (July 8) and the last being on July 19, featuring
R&B singer Neo in a show titled “Neo in Zen”.
Back in 2005 there were verbal threats between two promoters over
who had conceptualised the summer party.
The matter seemed to be headed to court but it never happened.
Sources revealed it was just a warning to one of the parties involved.
This year again confusion seems to be reigning over the word summer.
An inside source told Mirror that the “bad blood” stems
mainly from the fact the idea for the summer parties was a concept
of both Chow Lin On and Iwer.
“Last year Iwer marketed it as if he was the only brain behind
it,” explained Mirror’s source.
