She was transferred shortly after.
The girl’s mother told Mirror she became aware of the problem
when two boys of her daughter’s class informed her of what
they had seen.
“The boys told me that the teacher used to call my daughter
at his desk and put his hands under her uniform.
“They also told me that my daughter went in the staff room
with the teacher regularly.
“The boys told me my daughter would pass through the back
door of the classroom and then the teacher would pass through another
entrance at the front of the classroom.
“I questioned my daughter and she told me exactly what was
happening,” the Orange Valley, Couva woman said.
The child’s mother said: “I observed a rude look on
my daughter’s face a month before but I did not take it on.
“I was a bit concerned when my daughter received a walkman
as a Christmas gift in 2002 from her teacher.
“She has pretty, grey eyes and I thought the teacher gave
her the gift because he liked her in a fatherly way.
“I did not expect this.
“When I heard of my child’s abuse and questioned the
teacher, he said the gift was given because my daughter did well
in exams.
“My daughter was an F student from First Year at the school.
“She was graded F in the Christmas exam of 2002, yet the teacher
said she did well.
“I have all the test results as proof.”
The woman said her daughter told her the teacher said what he did
was a secret between them and she should not tell anyone.
She claims that the child was given money to remain quiet.
When the child was taken to the Couva Police in March, 2003, her
mother said: “She whispered her experience into the ears of
the Woman Police Constable (WPC), who interviewed her.
“She was sent to the District Medical Officer (DMO) for examination.
“It was discovered she was not sexually active.
“The matter was also reported to the Ministry of Education.
“No steps were taken against the teacher.
“The police claimed that the file was lost,” the abused
child’s mother related.
Police are now taking a fresh statement from the child.
The latest instance of child molestation at the school was reported
to have taken place on June 20 to a six-year-old student. Inspector
Khan of the Couva Police Station is investigating. |
