AT
1 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006, Petrotrin’s management
and the executive of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU)
met at the Petrotrin Learning Centre, Pointe-a-Pierre to signal
the commencement of negotiations on behalf of Petrotrin Trinmar
monthly paid staff bargaining units for 2006 to 2009.
In his remarks, the President General of the OWTU called for the
agreement to be settled in record time and for a restoration of
trust between employees and management.
Executive Chairman Malcolm Jones gave a comprehensive update on
Petrotrin’s key projects and financial imperatives over the
2006 to 2009 period.
He also gave the following assurances to the Petrotrin family and
the nation: “We are committed to safe operations that are
guaranteed to protect the lives of our employees and neighbouring
communities.
“We are committed to making the necessary investments for
the long-term interest of our company and nation.
“We are committed to providing our employees a challenging
but rewarding work environment.
“We are committed to competitive terms and conditions of employment.
“And like the Soca Warriors, we are committed to being a shining
example for all of Trinidad and Tobago.”
He then challenged all stakeholders to take a united stand in the
company’s best interest in order to make the necessary capital
investments that would ensure its long-term viability and growth.
Meanwhile, negotiations continues for the hourly/weekly and junior
staff. |
