World Cup Round-Up

Latapy must be our next coach

with ANDRE E. BAPTISTE
THERE is life after World Cup for soon-to-be retired Russell Latapy.

This loss on the field, must be neutralised by a massive gain off the field of play, Latapy must become a candidate for our coach of the future.

At 36, Latapy may be young to many of us, but in footballing terms, he is at the right age to assume leadership over the team, once it is apparent -- Leo Beenhakker -- no longer wants the job, as seems in question, with talks of Saudi Arabia and Australia in the air.

All of a sudden, we are being told that the “Dutch” style of football is best for us.

What about of our own style, is that on the cards?

Latapy will command more respect than any other local if he is to coach the young players now joining the team after the World Cup.

farewell appearance

to the World
Cup Finals.

He can begin with the Under-21 team and gradually work his way up, as an understudy to another at senior level.

Progression and transition are applicable in most sports, why not football.

The World Cup in Germany was our learning curve.

Why now?

Some may ask, and the answer is, we must be forward thinkers and look to the future.

Our Football will not die after the World Cup whatever some may think, it will live and for their to be added life, we need to give it the energy and direction needed.

Latapy is the man, he has stated openly he wants this coveted job, and he must be our next coach.

We must forget about those who may have hurt feelings because of this, there will be other places to use them.

So for once, Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation choose a local early, in Latapy and give him time to build a team for 2010.
