La Horquetta teen opens music studio

By JOELINE THOMAS
EIGHTEEN-YEARS-OLD Jabari Winchester, one of the original founders of Studio 53 in La Horquetta, has branched off to open yet another production studio.

The youngster, who created the rhythm for local reggae sensation, Isasha, with his hit single, Don’t You Know, decided it was time to spread his wings and open his own enterprise, UBS Corporation Production Company.

That was seven months ago.

Winchester told TnT Mirror that besides Isasha, he also worked with “Million Voice” during his time at Studio 53.

He revealed: “I came from a Christian family and my parents were not supportive of my musical pursuit.”

However, despite that setback, he became fully involved in the music industry about four years ago.

Jabari told Mirror that he has worked with over 40 artistes thus far.

And he revealed that his company is not only focussed on pushing soca, but is determined to promote other types of music as well. Reggae, R&B and Hip-Hop are some of the other types of music on which his company will focus.

Jabari said: “I grew up in La Horquetta, which is the home place of two of the country’s newest reggae stars.

“Being exposed to so much talent over the years is what encouraged me to build my own production company.”

He boasted: “The difference between my studio and the others is that we market our artistes.

“At my studio we promote our entertainers and ensure that their music is properly distributed throughout the radio stations.”

Another member of UBS Production Company is 25-year-old Niko Duncan of Westmoorings. Duncan lived in New York for a few years, but returned to Trinidad early last year and linked up with Jabari. Both men revealed that a tape of UBS’ various artistes would be hitting record stores soon.

Versatile Promotions, Black Diamond Records and Supreme Studios have all combined with UBS Productions to release the CD.

“Look out for a blazing hot CD,” Jabari boasted.
