Leacock insists all he is in charge of is an URP Gang:
I’m not responsible for the Nelson Street murders

By SUZETTE EDWARDS-LEWIS
ROBERT LEACOCK of Apartment L on 66-68 Nelson Street, Port of Spain claims that the arrest of four teenagers two Tuesdays ago is another attempt by the police wear him down.

The teenagers - three females and one male, in ages ranging from 15 to 17 years, and 29-year-old Rodney Samuel were charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

A senior member of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) explained that even though it was only a small quantity of drugs, the law states that when drugs are found within 500 metres from a school, the charge becomes a trafficking offence.

The school in this instance is the South-East Port of Spain Secondary School.

They appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate and were offered bail.

The teenaged boy is at the Youth Training Centre (YTC), while the females are at the St. Jude’s Home For Girls.

Angry and frustrated, Leacock explained that at about 5 p.m., members of IATF raided and ransacked his apartment, looking for illegal drugs.

“I was not at home when they broke down my front door and barged in,” Leacock explained.

“My sister, sister-in-law, nephew and my niece, all teenagers, were at home with my brother-in-law.

“The police and soldiers went through all my personal belongings, all my wife’s personal belongings and my 16-year-old sister’s personal belongings.

“Imagine, they even searched my wife and sister’s underwear drawer.

“And they did not only carry down my family, but I had TT$6,000, US$280 and several pieces of jewellery which they also took.

“They also took some old cellphones I had along with my new cellphone.

“Even my nephew’s video game was taken.

“Then they sent back the old phones and kept my good phone, my jewellery and the video game.

“And out of all the money they took, they sent back only $900.”

Leacock said that after the raid on his home and the arrests, the officers locked up his place and left.

“I had to send to the station for my house keys,” added Leacock.

He insisted: “I am not involved in drugs; I doh kidnap nobody.

“I eh no angel, but I eh no killer or drugsman.

“The police only coming and harassing and provoking me since last year, saying that I is a gang leader and responsible for the murders on Nelson Street.

“They always say they looking for drugs and could never find any.”

Leacock continued: “The only gang I running is ah URP gang, and I does help real people out here.”

He claimed that the marijuana his family was charged with was really found in the yard.

“They framed my family,” he insisted.

“They charged my teenaged family and my brother-in-law for trafficking just because they want to get at me; that is madness.

“These teenagers do not smoke or even drink.

“I am not sitting on this just so; enough is enough.

“I want a thorough investigation on this.

“So much people getting kill everyday, but instead of concentrating on solving the murders, they only harassing me.

“Why they don’t go to WestMoorings and get on so.”
