Masked cops looked like bandits, security guard claims his home ransacked in his absence and eyewitness insists:
Police shoot an unarmed man!

By JOELINE THOMAS
“THE man came out of his house dressed in a sliders with his hands up in the air and the police still shoot and kill him.”

This was the cry of angry Phase Four, Beetham Gardens residents, who claimed that officers shot and killed an unarmed resident last Thursday, during an early morning exercise in the area.

And residents also claimed that the cops and soldiers came dressed in masks, hence their refusal to open their doors when ordered to do so.

An angry resident, who claimed to have witnessed the killing, related: “I not saying that the guy they shot was not involved in any crime or anything, but he was unarmed at the time and the cops should not have killed him.

“He and five other men were in the house when police surrounded it.

“The officers announced themselves as police and ordered that everyone come out of the house.”

The eyewitness continued: “The man opened the door and came outside with his hands in the air.

“Shortly after, I heard several shots fired and the unarmed man fell to the ground.”

Curious residents tried every possible means to catch a glimpse of the body lying on the ground, but no one was allowed near to it.

Joint police and army officers and even a helicopter ensured that the spot where the body was located was secured.

The powerful breeze from the propellers of the helicopter sent residents scampering from the scene.

While TnT Mirror was on the scene, four men were seen being taken from inside the “Hell Yard” area, opposite the Beetham Landfill, and escorted into a police vehicle.

Residents claimed that the four men, who were apprehended by the cops, were on the block drinking alcohol and liming when the officers pounced on them.

“Them four fellas who they hold on the block not in anything, and if you see the way the police and soldiers treat the men,” complained another resident.

“I see a soldier drag one of the men off his seat and slammed him down to the ground.

“Then he cock the gun on him and tell him if he only move he go shoot him.

“Soon after, another group of officers took the men into custody and threw them into the back of a silver-coloured police pick-up van.”

Ruben Attiba, 21, reportedly wanted for a number of murders, was identified as the resident who was killed by the cops.

Residents also told Mirror: “The armed officers with masks on their faces came banging down our doors in the wee hours of the morning.”

“We were skeptical to open our doors because the cops were dressed like bandits and we were scared; we were not sure they were police.”

“If they were not wearing masks we would have felt more secure in opening our doors.” Another resident added: “The cops were very abusive to us.

“Male police are not supposed to hit a female civilian, and I saw a woman get a gun butt to her face from a male cop and ordered to get inside.

“The police take away our jewellery, cellphones and money. We find it was real wickedness.”

Meanwhile, another resident, security officer Wilton Williams, complained that the officers raided and ransacked his home in his absence and also broke down the fence at the back of his yard.

“My two grandchildren came to visit me that day and the experience left them traumatised,” he added.

“They were also not at home when the cops raided, but arrived in time to witness some of the police in action.”

Friendly neighbours pitched in and helped Williams repair his fence.

All told, 27 persons were arrested during the early-morning raid.
