My only violation is building a gazebo
- Crobar’s owner

By JOELINE THOMAS

THE owner of Crobar Restaurant and Bar situated at #33 Carlos Street, Woodbrook is insisting that his business was wrongfully advertised as one of a list of properties to be demolished by the Port of Spain City Corporation (PoSCC).

In a quarelling mood, he also described as “completely false”, the information contained in an interview in last week’s Sunday Mirror (January 1, 2006), in which his manager said he (the owner) was currently in negotiations with PoSCC over the demolition threat.

Last week, Mirror did an expose of nine properties advertised in the Press by PoSCC’s acting chief executive officer Laraine Alexander as being in contravention of the Building Regulations, and which have failed to comply therewith.

PoSCC threatened to demolish the properties.

When Mirror visited Crobar last week, the owner was not present, but his manager also said: “When the notice came out in the newspapers, our customers started asking us if the place was really going to be broken down.

“However, at this stage I really don’t know what will be the outcome.

“If we are forced to move, then that is what we will have to do; but we are hoping it doesn’t reach that drastic point.”

However, this week, the owner insisted: “The only violation I have committed was building a gazebo in the carpark.”

He added: “The thing is not even big; I could pick it up and move it for my self.

“The only problem was that it is blocking a drive way, which is also a loading and offloading bay.

“I received notices about it and agreed to move it.”

However, when he spoke with Mirror last Tuesday, the gazebo had not yet been removed.
