track was unique in that way.
In an interview with TnT Mirror before his incarceration, Blazer
described the abrupt change-of-voice as his “split personality”.
He further revealed that life for him had not always been “a
bed of roses”.
He started off singing at the tender age of 11 in a church next
door, owned by his mother.
“Everyone in my family could sing, especially my mother who
is my main inspiration,” he said.
“In my youthful days, I fell victim to neighbourhood bullies
who took advantage of me because I was a lot smaller and considered
a ‘church boy’.
“I decided one day to fight back.
“After that, I often found myself getting into a lot of trouble
until I decided to change my life.”
Eventually taking some measure of control, he decided to focus most
of his attention on family tradition: singing.
After dabbling with R&B and dub, the former gospel singer decided
to try soca, not knowing success was waiting to embrace him right
away.
Blazer became popular with his first single, Wrong Timing four years
ago and moved on to at least one favourite hit per year.
He wrote his own lyrics, some from personal experiences the rest
from his own diverse talent.
He became one of the artistes people looked forward to hearing each
Carnival; and although his releases were late last year, Crazy Wine
and Start to Wave still did reasonably well.
But then came the incident last year stemming from a deteriorated
situation at home, resulting in the entertainer being arrested and
charged with the murder of his cousin.
Although behind bars, Blazer has recently released his latest single,
Somebody, featuring devoted friends Bunji Garlin, Maximus Dan and
Fay Ann Lyons.
The track has been receiving significant airplay for C2K6, although
the artiste remains behind bars.
It features a music video with clips of Blazer still behind bars.
