| RESIDENTS
at Almond Court, Morvant have lashed out at the Housing Development
Company’s (HDC), formerly the National Housing Authority (NHA)
decision to build two additional apartment buildings on the compound.
Ian Seaton, a resident at Almond Court, told TnT Mirror that HDC
was going against a lease from Town and Country, by commercialising
the compound.
He further pointed out that the lease states that no apartment at
the complex is supposed to be rented out.
“Any resident occupying an apartment was supposed to purchase
his dwelling; he was not allowed to rent,” Seaton noted.
However, prospective residents would be able to rent apartments
in the two new structures, despite what the previous lease said.
An annoyed Seaton further pointed out: “The Town and Country
law specifies that every apartment complex with over 100 apartments
must have a playground and a park.
“Almond Court has neither of these facilities, yet plans are
being considered to build more apartments.”
Seaton revealed: “The entire infrastructure of the current
buildings is in a deplorable condition.
“The sewerage system in the area is faulty and raw sewage
occasionally runs into the drains.
“The roads are also in a deplorable condition.”
He questioned: “How could HDC build new apartments when the
area is so poorly maintained?”
Seaton fumed: “HDC offered us the proposal last week and we
rejected it.
“We the residents at Almond Court are calling on Town and
Country to pursue the original plan for the area.” |
