Panday
usually makes it a point to visit Dr. Bharath and his family whenever
he travels to London.
In fact, as a boy, young Vasant knew Panday as “Uncle Bas”.
So, in light of the long relationship between the two families,
and with the future of the UNC in the air, Bharath should clear
the air on the following issues:
* Bharath has publicly claimed that he has been
vindicated in the “Dog Rice” scandal.
However, reports are that a court did not clear him, but it was
actually an out-of-court-settlement that resolved the issue.
Would Bharath kindly clear the air on this issue?
* After the “Dog Rice” scandal broke,
it is alleged that Bharath sold his house and cars in TnT and fled
to the Far East, in order to avoid his assets being frozen in the
event of an investigation. Would Bharath kindly clear the air on
this?
* It is reported that even though the “Dog
Rice” originated from the obscure Indian firm of Gangadas
Shah, it was shipped through another UK company.
It is alleged that the company has close ties to Bharath’s
in-laws and wife, who are from India.
Bharath must clear the air on this.
* It has been reported that the forensic accounting
firm KPMG was concerned that Bharath “was less than honest”
in declaring his relation to the company in India.
He clarify this?
* Senior officials at National Flour Mills (NFM)
said that during Bharath’s tenure there as CEO, there was
reckless abuse of State funds by him on VIP trips to Cuba and Caracas.
Would Bharath kindly clear the air here?
* Other Board members at NFM at the time say CEO
Bharath told a meeting that “Prime Minister Panday gave permission
for the importation of the (‘dog’) rice”.
Some say that’s how Panday was unwittingly dragged into the
scandal.
Would Bharath say if this is indeed so?
* Long-standing employees at the Agostini company
recall embarrassment when second-grade Cheekies disposable diapers
were shipped to Grenada at a premium price.
Bharath was said to be a senior man in the company at the time.
Would he kindly clear the air on this issue?
* Bharath’s latest job is as CEO of Country
Pride Flour, owned by south-based tycoon, Shaheed Mohammed.
It is reported that during one of Bharath’s regular jaunts
in London, the bossman’s Rolls Royce was banged up in an accident,
with damage estimated at $121,000.
Would Bharath say if this is so?
UNC supporters told Mirror they observe that Bharath is extremely
close to Oma Panday, and they are asking why Panday is staking so
much on him, with so many corruption charges already hanging over
the party.
UNC insiders say Bharath has been identified as the successor to
Panday and will be installed in the Senate as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, UNC Political Leader Winston Dookeran still has to deal
with persons who may have outstanding issues of integrity and credibility.
But the political pundits are saying that Bharath, with full support
from the Pandays, can only work as a force to undermine Dookeran’s
credibility and cause the UNC to remain in Opposition.
