Cop dumped in cell block
... officers call on CoP Paul to investigate transfer

By ANNA POLIAH
COLLEAGUES of a police sergeant of Southern Division call on Commissioner of Police (CoP) Trevor Paul to investigate the strange circumstances surrounding his transfer.

A police source said Sgt. Harrylal Jaikeran, who is attached to the Mon Repos Police Station, was transferred one day after he questioned the use of abusive language by a senior Southern Division officer.

The senior officer reportedly telephoned the sergeant last Monday at the police station in relation to a crime form.

Crime forms contain information on crime in a police district.

A police source said: “We overheard the sergeant explaining on the telephone that the crime forms were not submitted because the crime book was at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) San Fernando.

“The crime book is normally submitted to CID at the end of each month to be audited.

“Suddenly, we heard the sergeant asked, ‘who you talking to?’

“We later learnt that the senior officer ordered the sergeant to ‘bring the bloody forms now’.

“Certainly, the language was not right.

“No senior officer should be allowed to berate his junior colleague like that,” a source told TnT Mirror.

One day later, Jaikeran was reportedly transferred to the cell block at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court effective August 11.

Police officers are calling for answers from Paul, “who authorise the transfer of Jaikeran?

“What are the grounds of the transfer?”

The cell block is the dumping ground for delinquent officers, Mirror was told.

A police officer said Jaikeran was doing a great job in Mon Repos.

“He had the co-operation of the staff and crime was being controlled.

“We are doing great with depleted strength and no vehicles.

“We borrow vehicles to get the job done in Mon Repos.

“Why don’t the senior officer attend to those problems instead of victimising a hard working officer?” a disgruntled officer asked.

Mirror understand that work morale at the police station has since been reduced.
