Kamla threatens to quit
... things not going her way in the ‘Bacchanal Party’

OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has threatened to quit politics.

This, according to a high profile source close to the Kamla Persad-Bissessar, led faction of the divided United National Congress (UNC).

The source told TnT Mirror Persad-Bissessar was disturbed with the direction of certain matters in the party which has had unending bacchanal for many months now.

Additionally, Persad-Bissessar was reportedly feeling threatened over being removed.

Persad-Bissessar is a deputy political leader of the party.

She is also the Member of Parliament of Siparia.

Persad-Bissessar has pledged support to former Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday publicly.

But a source said the going is getting too tough for her because reports say Panday is favouring former Attorney General Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj as Political Leader of the UNC.

However, with the party already in disarray, the source said it will not be the ideal situation for the party for Persad-Bissessar to leave the party.

A source told Mirror: “Persad-Bissessar will walk if she is demoted.

“She has already indicated an interest in a planting flowers.

“But that will only be based on the treatment she receives from the party.”

The source said Persad-Bissessar was under severe pressure.

Persad-Bissessar was recently involved in a heated argument over the re-nomination of two chairmen of regional corporations, TnT Mirror was told.

The argument reportedly took place in the Opposition Leader’s office in Port of Spain.

“It was over the re-appointment of Dr. Allen Sammy at the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) and Ramlochan Pancho at the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation (MRCRC).

“These members of the Kamla Persad-Bissessar led fraction don’t seem to agree on all decisions they make.

“But at the end of the day they all have to abide with directives coming from more senior party members,” the source said.

Both Sammy and Ramlochan were re-appointed to serve for another year.

Sources say the party must unite.

“We have a split with the Winston Dookeran led faction,” they added.

“Now we are facing fallout in the Persad-Bissessar led faction.

“This is too much in-fighting for us to handle. How are we expected to even win an election or run a country under these conditions?”
