ONLY
a handful of road runners participated in the early-morning 5k road
race, which was the opening event of the popular Games We Used to
Play at Mason Hall last Sunday.
The race was, however, very competitive among the diehards of road
running in TnT.
Among the male runners Kade Sobers was finally able to overcome
his foremost rival Ellis Turner to capture the $500 first prize.
After the event, he told TnT Mirror that on two previous road races
Turner got the better of him.
“The man pushed me real hard up the hills on the course around
the village. At one time I was thinking, ‘you mean he go beat
me for a third time’.”
Sobers said he made his move against Turner going down Coco Watty
Trace hill.
“When I saw him cruising down the hill, I decided to take
him. I passed him as fast as I could and pulled away from him,”
he related.
“I looked back and could see him struggling, so I know I had
the race under control,” boasted Sobers.
“When questioned, Turner revealed that after Sobers passed
him, he tried to push, but felt a sharp gas pain at his side and
decided to ease off.
“In the female race, Susan Gracia of Maraval dethroned last
year’s winner Fidella Ramirez in what turned out to be a sprint
to the finish line.”
