Sad songs after Tobago Jazz

A man fell asleep while waiting.

AFTER joy is sorrow and patrons who attended the successful jazz fest in Tobago last weekend experienced the full brunt of that saying.

Patrons were asked to park their cars at a carpark at Black Rock, Turtle Beach, from where a maxi-taxi shuttle service took them to the concert venue at Plymouth.

Those who travelled by taxi were dropped off at the carpark and they, too, had to take the shuttle service.

The “dropping off” arrangement went smoothly.

However, taking patrons back to the carpark, which is several kilometres from the venue, turned out to be a disaster.

Many patrons were forced to wait for over an hour and when the maxis did turn up, people rushed and climbed onto one another to get in.

Some who could not push or refused to wait for another hour decided to walk the long distance to get to their cars.

Patrons could not even get a taxi because they were not allowed into the area.

Frustration stepped in and they began to bicker.

“The jazz was good but waiting for this shuttle was ridiculous,” said a female patron.

The situation got so out-of-hand that whenever patrons spotted a maxi they ran to it in a manner that endangered their lives.

A popular model even took off her high heel shoes, to gain more running speed towards a maxi.
