Fraud Squad probes PM’s kitchen

By AZAD ALI

A “FISHY” smell in the kitchen at Prime Minister Patrick Manning’s official residence at St. Ann’s, Port of Spain has reached the Fraud Squad in Port of Spain.

The Office of the Prime Minister has called in the police to investigate over-spending on foodstuff at the PM’s home.

There is a strong suspicion that food being paid for is not reaching Manning’s kitchen.

The police were called in following questionable payments to suppliers over a period of time, which is said to run into thousands of dollars.

The Office of the Prime Minister reported the matter to Special Branch, who referred the investigation to the Fraud Squad a few days ago.

Members of the Defence Force run the PM’s household.

A source said that the PM does not want anything smelling “fishy” around him and is prepared to call in the police to probe any reports of irregularities in spending at his residence.

Millions of dollars are spent to upkeep the PM’s residence.

There were reports that during the reign of PM Basdeo Panday, millions of dollars were spent on lavish gourmet food and expensive liquor.
