A “FISHY” smell in the kitchen at
Prime Minister Patrick Manning’s official residence at St.
Ann’s, Port of Spain has reached the Fraud Squad in Port
of Spain.
The Office of the Prime Minister has called in the police to investigate
over-spending on foodstuff at the PM’s home.
There is a strong suspicion that food being paid for is not reaching
Manning’s kitchen.
The police were called in following questionable payments to suppliers
over a period of time, which is said to run into thousands of
dollars.
The Office of the Prime Minister reported the matter to Special
Branch, who referred the investigation to the Fraud Squad a few
days ago.
Members of the Defence Force run the PM’s household.
A source said that the PM does not want anything smelling “fishy”
around him and is prepared to call in the police to probe any
reports of irregularities in spending at his residence.
Millions of dollars are spent to upkeep the PM’s residence.
There were reports that during the reign of PM Basdeo Panday,
millions of dollars were spent on lavish gourmet food and expensive
liquor.
