| A
LA ROMAINE resident has accused the Laguna Mar Hotel in Margarita
of running an organised scam.
Kurt Samaroo told TnT Mirror that he went to Margarita for vacation
with his family after being told by his travel agent that the Laguna
Mar Hotel was one of the best resorts on the island.
“I eventually booked the trip, as the offer seemed too good
to be true,” he admitted.
But upon their arrival at the hotel, the Samaroo family was approached
by staff who offered them time-shares.
“I felt robbed by the agent who didn’t tell us that
we had to participate in a presentation to offer us time-shares;
that was why we got that package so cheap, I thought.”
Samaroo also spoke about being asked if they had credit cards.
The offer made to travellers at the hotel was that the interested
persons would be able to interchange weekends at different resorts
each year.
He said his wife encouraged him to accept the offer due to its supposed
benefits.
The family paid with Samaroo’s credit card and was informed
that their documents from the transaction would be mailed to them.
However, months passed and no documents were ever sent.
Samaroo said he tried calling the hotel to enquire about the documents
but none of the Spanish-speaking personnel assisted him.
It was not until he went back to Margarita that he received his
documents.
“With the help of an agent who speaks Spanish, we went back
to the hotel and made some noise,” he explained.
He continued: “But the nightmare has only now begun because
every time I call to use my weekend I am told the hotel is booked.
“A lot of people I know are experiencing the same problem;
we paid for something and can’t get to use it.
“It is an organised scam going on at the hotel and nobody
is doing anything about it.”
He warned Trinidadians to boycott the hotel.
“I am hoping the police eventually lock up these people; I
know for a fact that I am never going to that hotel again.
“Hopefully, no more innocent people will fall victim to this
scam.” |
