AS
the rest of the world prepares for the World Cup in June-July 2006,
the Taliban has stepped up it’s offensive against the US and
NATO forces in Afghanistan and many are predicting a bloody spring.
In capitals all over the globe, Muslims are seething with anger
over irreverent cartoons making fun of Prophet Muhammad (S).
Hamas is working on forming a government which does not recognise
Israel and is dedicated to its overthrow, which will surely see
an escalation in violence between the Palestinian authority and
the Jewish State.
In Iraq, sunnis and shi’ahs under foreign occupation are racing
headlong into perhaps the worst sectarian conflict since.
Meanwhile, the interim Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Olmert, a
coward trying to pose as a general, threatens to unilaterally draw
a border for Israel by 2010, which will see lands that were initially
withdrawn from, again being occupied by Israeli military.
This measure will include a grab for all of Jerusalem and the Temple
Mount site upon which stands the Dome of the Rock and the Mosque
of Omar, two sites sacred to Islam and another flash point for violence.

In Africa, religious violence raging between Christians and Muslims
has peaked with blood being shed on both sides for political, tribal,
economical and religious reasons, as the colonial inspired nation
State of Nigeria unravels before the eyes of it’s citizens.
In Kenya, Muslims are forced into power plays, which leaves them
a marginalised, significant minority.
Meanwhile, American special forces are waging a covert war against
the independent noble Tuareges of the Saharah, under the pretext
of a war on terror and rooting out remnants of al Qaidah.
The Spanish authority is also busy setting up electrical fences
to butress Europe, in its colonial enclave on African soil, to keep
Africans out of EU countries.
Racist Morocco simply murders them, or leaves them stranded in the
desert to face death.
In the midst of this tempest, Iran is resisting being referred to
the UN Security Council for possible punitive, economic and political
sanctions. In the background, the Bush Adminstration is threatening
possibile military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure;
similar threats have also been made by Israel, a nuclear power in
the region.
Now, what has brought us to this state of affairs?
My simple answer to this is White Power!
Europe and its scion, America, have been exercising power in shaping
the world of politics and finance in a way which guarantees them
a market for their goods and ideas.
This is evident in the root of the conflict among Iran, the EU and
USA surrounding the development of nuclear technology for peaceful
or military use.
Western powers are distrustful of Iranian’s intentions regarding
developing nuclear technology; they are of the view that Iran wants
to develop nuclear bombs.
Personally, I do not favour nuclear arms or atomic warfare because
of its fearsome indiscriminate power and its harmful effects on
humans, animals and the environment.
But, I also understand its military and political signifigance as
a deterrent and clout in international affairs.
One only has to look at India, Israel, North Korea and Pakistan,
all of whom developed nuclear and atomic capibility outside of the
international framework.
However, the problem with Iran is that she has signed international
agreements, which the Qur’an mandates her to fulfil, since
that was the agreement.
Failure to do so will only bring her into international disrepute,
morally and Islamically.
Iran should not proceed by stealth to master nuclear fuel cycle
technology for the purpose of developing bombs.
If she intends this, then she should publicy withdraw from all previous
agreements and then proceed to do whatever she wishes.
America and her allies, stretched as they are, will have major problems
opening another war front, for it is well-known that Iran is not
Iraq. Any conflict will only strenghten the hand of the current
regime and galvanise the people in this current atmosphere, where
it is perceived that Islam is indeed under attack from the West,
led by America.
But the USA still has the option and capability to launch a pre-emptive
strike against major military sites and nuclear facilities, along
with political conspiracies, to undermine the current administration
of Ahmadinejad.
If it uses that option, we could well witness the economic and political
consequences of such an action, which may change and realign power
or the emergence of a new ruling state, as Maulana Imran Hosein
explains in a penetrating article entitled Will America Attack Iran?
Check his website at www.imranhosein.org
When China acquired atomic armaments, there were similar opposition
and sabre-rattling, which she studiously ignored.
The racist, unstated argument by the West is that only White nations
have the capacity and responsibility inherent by nature, destiny
and history to possess this awesome power harnessed by the atomic
bomb and nuclear armaments.
If not, then by what right, divine or human, are they entitled to
have atomic capability while denying others that same right?
This will be the rhetorical question on the minds of most Iranians
when they form their human chain in protest around Natanz Uranium
Enrichment plant in Iran, the most sensitive facilitiy in Iran’s
nuclear programme.
Iran, in response, has threatened to restrict its oil supplies in
order to force oil prices even higher.
It could also use its influence over militant groups in Iraq, Lebanon,
Afghanistan and Palestine, to create a truly unstable region that
will have a destablising effect on the market and oil prices.
For the rest of the world, that is a recipie for confusion and will
inflict higher prices on their populations, something western societies
do not want at this time of relative prosperity.
Saudi Arabia will not be able to adequately prevent the rise in
oil prices as it is also engaged in a minor but bold insurgency
from al Qaidah members in Arabia, who are trying to topple the Kingdom.
In a recent video, aired by Arab news agencies, Dr. Ayman Zawahiri,
Bin Ladin’s second in command, remarked that western economic,
political and military powers are engaged in the biggest theft of
the oil resources of the Muslim and Arab world, which must be confronted.
Coming after an attack on one of the largest oil producing facility
in Saudi Arabia, this indicates that the oil industry is now considered
as a military, economical and political target, which will see financial
pressure in the near future.
For us on this idylic isle, we inevitably will be the benificaries,
monetarily from the problems facing the world, as we always have,
but too shame to admit, and even as we sneer and make crude irreverant
jokes like, God is a Trinidadian!
But we better wake up and come to grips with the possibility that
what is sweet in goat’s mouth might well be sour in his bam-bam,
for we are not immune from being tested as the rest of the people
on this planet.
