“And the big boys who are stealing our money always seem to
be able to file motion after motion in the court to keep out of
jail.
“In addition, we always inform them that we are coming for
them, so that they can arrange their bailers and not have to spend
at least one night in jail.”
He added: “So yes, I am a cynic, but I am still optimistic
that we will catch some.
“I only hope that everyone is serious this time around, because
there are some big boys who should be in jail.
“They are terrorising our society with their evil, but because
of their connections, we can’t touch them.
“All we seem to do is to catch the small criminals and fill
up the jail with them.
“And the ‘small’ continue to commit crimes because
they see that the big boys are literally getting away with murder
everytime.
“There is a pervading view in society that arresting big boys
is a show because, they will all be eventually freed.
“Recent events have only served to cement that view.
“So, some people feel that the entire justice system must
be overhauled to prevent some of the big boys from making a mockery
of the courts with appeal after constitutional motion after appeal
for the same thing.
“Some people also feel that even when the police do their
job, some of the presiding officers in court, whether magistrate
or judge, will make nonsense of it because they have some interest
to serve.
“So even though I support the call to go after the big boys,
you understand why I am cynical.”
He added: “So it must be a holistic approach if we want to
succeed in this venture.
“The time has come for the Director of Public Prosecution
to work closer with the police, so that along the way we will do
everything the right way and prevent the cases being thrown out
on technicalities.
“Sometimes you are forced to wonder if the mistakes made are
not deliberate in order to give the accused the back door they need
to escape.
“If we are going after the big fish, we must have all hands
on deck so when we nab them, unless we are really wrong, their jail
is booked.
“We must put the big men in the crime business where they
belong -- in jail.
