IN
light of what happened in Fiji three months ago, questions are being
asked whether gunmen guarding American evangelist Benny Hinn would
be allowed into TnT with their guns.
When Hinn visited Fiji at the end of January for another of his
three-day crusades, similar to the one he will be hosting in Trinidad
from May 19-21, the guns of his bodyguards were confiscated by Customs
officers at the airport.
Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Andrew Hughes had sternly threatened
even before the multi-millionaire pastor had touched down on the
island: “Benny Hinn will not carry arms in Fiji.”
He declared: “Okay, if his escort is armed on arrival at the
airport, Customs will seize the firearms and they will be confiscated
until they depart Fiji.
“On arrival, his escorts will be briefed by police about the
rules.”
The Police Commissioner insisted: “Under no circumstances
will I approve them to bring arms into Fiji, nor will I approve
them carrying arms.
“Why would they need guns?”
One official further declared: “The issue is that he is coming
to bless people; security is not an issue.”
Hinn reportedly always travels around with a big, well-armed security
detail.
Given the high level of crime in TnT today, sources said that Hinn’s
personal security detail might be beefed up.
But the big question is: “Would Hinn’s personal security
be allowed into Trinidad with their guns?
“Or, would the local police be as strict as Fiji and confiscate
Hinn’s bodyguard’s arms at the airport?” |
