Police beat Warrior fans

A MAN was stabbed and police began beating people like mad on the Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain last Thursday.

Hence, many spectators abandoned the late-night festivities, which took place in honour of Trinidad and Tobago’s first-ever trip to the World Cup Finals.

The incident occurred during the height of the festivities, mere minutes before the Soca Warriors made their way to the promenade after a day-long procession, from the Piarco International Airport, along the Eastern Main Road and into Port of Spain.

Some annoyed spectators at the scene decided to call it a night and returned home without even catching a glimpse of the successful TnT football team.

One spectator related: “I was liming on the promenade opposite the treasury when the melee occurred.

“I just see people running all over the place so I started to run too, when I look around I see a man bleeding walking through the crowd.

“The next thing I knew, police were beating people like mad; I left immediately.”

There were also reports of a bottle-throwing incident that took place opposite a fast-food outlet on Independence Square.

Despite the setbacks, the festivities continued throughout the night.
