SWMCOL exhibits stamp, currency collection

FORMER President, Arthur N.R. Robinson has received a special commemorative copy of the Central Bank’s numismatic/philatelic exhibition, which was officially opened at the Central Bank.

The exhibition, a collaboration between SWMCOL and the Central Bank, portrays the $1 stamp of 2003 with a portrait of former President Arthur Robinson and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan celebrating the inauguration of the International Criminal Court.

stamps of Trinidad and Tobago focussed on the environment since independence in 1962. They are in mint, uncirculated condition in complete sets, which focus on the theme of the environment flora and fauna and conservation.

The SWMCOL collection also includes a complete edition of TnT currency notes issued by the Central Bank which portray birds of Trinidad and Tobago or support the environment.

Also on exhibit is the Craig family stamp collection of Belize which portray orchids, birds, insects, butterflies, trees, shells, churches, folklore characters, Maya ruins and even ships in the Battle of St George’s Caye.

In Trinidad for this exhibition is Theresa Batty, Curator of the National Institute of Culture and History, Belize.

The Central Bank also has its own exhibition of notes, coins and proof sets including the $100 Gold Coin issued in 1982.

This collection forms part of the Central Bank Money Museum.

Present at the official launch was Minister of Public Utilities and environment Penelope Beckles who cut the ribbon to open the exhibition; Executive Chairman, SWMCOL, Ray M.S. Brathwaite and Govenor of the Central Bank, Ewart Williams, who presented the special commemorative issue to Robinson.
