Hilton awards Sheppy

IF Sunday Mirror’s Editor Keith Shepherd were alive, he would have shook his head, laughed and said: “Aaah boy,” as he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award.

But even though he is no longer with us in the physical form, Shepherd’s contribution in the field of journalism was recognised during the annual Hilton Trinidad Media Brunch held on December 4. He was awarded the Hilton’s General Manager’s Award for Lifetime Service.

General Manager and Country Manager of Hilton Trinidad Ali Khan reminded that “Sheppy” (as he was fondly called by everyone) was well-known for his weekly columns “Mirror in the House” and “Keith-Beat”.

“In his own entertaining style he kept even the most disinterested citizen captivated with the goings-on in the political arena,” said Khan.

Features Writer Lennox Grant of Trinidad Guardian was also awarded the General Manager’s Award for Lifetime Service.

Ali said a TT$5,000 “Rosa Parks Scholarship” will also be granted to a deserving young journalist between the ages of 17-25, “who has displayed a bold, visionary approach to research and reporting”.
