2 Ha’ quai sails again

Bandleaders Stephanie Johnson and Rawden Graham recently gave a sneak preview of the band 2 Ha’ quai’s presentation for 2007 titled, A Sailor’s Tale.

The launch took place on Sunday September 17, on board the Treasure Queen.

According to Johnson, A Sailor’s Tale has five sections: The Queen’s Sailors, Voyage From Sanluca, Pirates and Wenches, Overnight Tahiti and Fancy, Fancy Sailors.

The costumes, designed by Paulette Alfred are true representations of the sections themes, which are very appealing and not too revealing.

For example, the Queen’s Sailors’ costume bears the national colours of Britain (red, blue and white), the male’s costume is an adaptation of the admirals on board and the females wear their crisp, white box-pleated skirts, with typical sailor collars. Appliqués, braid and stones are used in decorating the costumes.

Carnival 2006 was the first year 2 Ha’ quai competed. On entering this year’s competition, the band captured numerous prizes in the Downtown category.

“We are sailing once again with our all inclusive band. That means, fabulous music, a well-stocked bar, hot meals and refreshments, reliable security, as well as attractive costumes,” Johnson said.
