The evening has been titled “The Progress of Winsford Devine, a collection of Caribbean lyrics”.

Sunday PUNCH was told that the collection would allow “his work to take its rightful place at the helm of the contemporary world of calypso”.

For them it has been long overdue.

“For decades Joker has been virtually unheralded, but all this will change with the publication of this book which affords us a glimpse into the soul of the man through the magnificent work he continues to create in our lifetime,” they continued.

Devine has written over 80 songs for Sparrow, Calypso King of the World, honey voiced Baron and the immortal classic Progress sung by King Austin and a host of other top calypsonians.

“A collection of Caribbean Lyrics” was compiled by Jamil Asinia and edited by Nandi Ogunlade.
