Poison Dream Team in action as ...
J.Lo’s hubby chippin’ behind soca truck

HOLLYWOOD’s Jennifer “J.Lo” Lopez’ husband Marc Anthony and New York’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg chipping behind a soca truck along Fifth Avenue, New York?

Well, that was the scene at the recent Puerto Rican Day Parade, an annual national event held in Manhattan in which the two leading personalities acted as Grand Marshals.

Courtesy Poison Dream Team, which was led by Earl Beckles and Paul Singh, soca was right there on the streets between the pulsating salsa rhythms.

The soca truck accompanied a band of costumed revellers from 44th Street to 89th Street.

Trini-born Roger Toussaint, President of the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU), New York and the man who recently made headlines when he brought transport to a standstill, couldn’t resist the soca and joined in for a jump-up.

The parade has grown into one of New York’s largest as thousands flock the streets to witness the gaiety.

Fox 5, NY9, CBS and NBC, as well as various Latin stations, televised the parade live.

“We achieved our objective and that was to raise awareness about Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival to a new audience who know very little about our culture,” explained Singh.

Because of the overwhelming response, the Poison Dream Team has already begun preparing for Puerto Rican Day Parade’s 50th Anniversary in 2007, as well as Halloween, Thanksgiving and Chinese Parade.
