4 ‘women’ who send men
crazy
... in TnT |

CECILY ASSON, Senior Reporter |
MEET these four young men, including
two blood brothers, who say they are in fact women!
And believe me, don’t tell the brave teenagers
anything different, it’s the way they feel,
the way they dress and it’s the life they
continue to live each day.

They are out of the closet and for
them there’s nothing to be ashamed of as each try
to get their individual designing, acting and modelling
careers off the ground.
Still with mama’s milk on their faces, 19-year-old
Jem, his brother 17-year-old Courtney, along with their
two best friends, Nikki, 19, and Keera, 17, are the new
generation drag queens.
The inseparable foursome is part of a growing gay culture
that has quietly taken over TnT.
And even more startling is the fact that this new breed
in the gay community has begun hitting the streets at
an earlier age.
The revelations made by Jem, Courtney, Nikki and Keera
are just “the tip of the iceberg” as to the
direction of some of the nation’s young men.
Proclaiming total abstinence and describing her constant
companions as just best friends who look out for each
other in the gay community, Jem and Nikki are considered
a hot pair and so, too, are Courtney and Keera.

|
The “girls” are the life of the gay parties,
which are held almost every weekend at popular nightspots
North and East Trinidad.
They are always the centre of attraction ... whether they’re
on the dance floor or because of their fashionable wear.

So, too, they have big men confused as to whether or not they are
really women.
“But that’s okay with us,” a confident Jem told
Sunday PUNCH in an exclusive interview.
“We are very comfortable as drag queens and are quite aware
that on this journey we will face many challenges.
|
|
“We always attract attention of the opposite sex (male),”
said Jem.
Neither one of them has any intentions of seeking any sex change
to satisfy their feminine needs.
“We are really satisfied cross-dressing since a sex change
wouldn’t make much difference in life.
“It won’t change our personalities as we’re already
women.”
So real they look that a big name corporate body invited them to
be “one of their girls”.
“We didn’t really follow it up, but regardless of what
anyone think, we could be one of their girls you know,” Jem
added seriously.
Jem and her team are quite prepared for whatever comes their way
and it’s why they’ve boldly stepped out the closet.

|
“I am a designer who wants to get her work out,” she
began to explain, “and the only way to do that is to go public.
“I also want to pursue a career in acting.”
He noted: “There are lots of designers who are gay but they
are in the closet.”
|
Jem, who told Sunday PUNCH he has been “cutting and
sewing dolly clothes” since he was about five years
of age, said he pursued his passion relentlessly.
“I’m a self-taught designer and my friends are
the ones who wear my designs.”
He also makes earrings.
Brothers Jem and Courtney shocked their parents when it
was discovered that both her sons were gay.
“At first mom couldn’t deal with it, but they
have now accepted us for who we are and we have their full
support.”

Jem and Nikki became best friends while attending a secondary school
on the outskirts of Port of Spain, while Courtney and Keera hooked
up while attending one of TnT’s most prestigious boys college.
They all have full CXC passes but never pursued A’Levels.
“We decided to go into designing and modelling.”
They are looking forward to celebrating Gay Pride week, carded for
later this month, where all their designs will be on show.
“We will also be modelling.”
Jem disclosed that before the end of the year she leaves for Hollywood.
“It was a tough decision to make but I need to get ahead on
my career.
“I also want to be an actress and the place to be is Hollywood.
“I’m definitely giving it a shot,” Jem concluded.
