Young soca bard sings in song...
Soca missing you
- SuperBlue

By CECILY ASSON
… AND a child shall lead them.

And he came all the way from the Far East, rural Valencia to be exact, to do so.

Ferdinand Smith, a talented eight-year-old had the hundreds of partygoers packed into Screamers carpark at last Saturday’s “Red Hott Kooler Fete” eating out his hands.

The youngster’s lament in his song, Super Come Home, was as strong as his performance.

The song penned by calypsonian Impulse takes a critical look at the beleaguered SuperBlue, former Road March/International Soca Monarch career, and begs him to get back into the business of soca since much is lacking.

Smith’s polished and mature performance on the big stage sent the crowd into frenzy.

Smith performed with the band Invazion just like any seasoned performer.

Invazion’s Naya George couldn’t contain his excitement after the youngster’s debut performance with his band.

He later told Sunday PUNCH: “Not since Machel (Montano) have we seen a youngster like this.

“He’s destined for great things once properly managed.”

Young Smith came out of Impulse’s recent island-wide “Young Idol” competition in which youths were given a chance to show off their soca skills.

Naya continued: “I heard the song on radio and saw his performance on DVD and I was very impressed.

“I couldn’t resist him and that’s why he will be with the Invazion family for the season.”

Naya disclosed that his phones have been ringing off the hook since last Saturday’s performance.

“Believe it, other bands have been inquiring about him.”

These are the lyrics:

Super Come Home
Written by Impulse
Sung by Ferdinand Smith

SuperBlue, soca missing you, come on shake out from that,
You missing
SuperBlue, woi, soca missing you

Ah wake up this morning, where is the Super
No more chant again, no more Baptist flavour
Since you gone, no more melody
Come back please and give it to we

We want to see you jump again, Super, Wave again, Super
In the ring, super, Missing something

SuperBlue, woi, soca missing you
SuperBlue, soca missing you, what you doing, soca crying
SuperBlue, woi, soca missing you

You is ah doctor, you could cure your self
The doctor of soca, you don’t need any one else
Waiting patiently, on your return
The door wide open, so please come back home

We want to see you jump again, Super, Wave again, Super
Sing again, ah want to hear them shout your name.

SuperBlue woi, soca missing you

Now, this is the time to lend ah hand,
This is the time to show our strength,
The time to show that person who he is, what he is,
And why he not suppose to be where he is, the time to rebuild.

Why? We want to see you jump again, Super, Wave again
Super, climb again Super, in the sun or rain

SuperBlue, wwoi, soca missing you,
SuperBlue, soca missing you, listen carefully, yuh children calling
SuperBlue woi, soca missing you

Super in the dark, and need ah touch ah light,
Not even ah spark, to enhance his eye sight,
We have to guide him away from there
His voice missing from the atmosphere

We want to see you jump again Super, Wave again Super
The world waiting Super for your refrain
SuperBlue, woi, and soca missing you.
