The
first placed winner will take home $400,000 and a Chevrolet car
valued at over $100,000.
President of Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO),
Michael Leggerton, said that he was happy that the producers, Caribbean
Prestige Foundation (CPF), were unified in their efforts to promote
Carnival.
He assured that soca music would not replace kaiso.
“There is a marriage.
“Kaiso gives you the events of the day.
“People have to understand if we do not have soca we would
not have Carnival.”
He discussed plans for building the TUCO Convalescent Home, saying
that it would not only be for calypsonians but for all artistes.
Tunapuna MP Edward Hart said at the launch that he was glad to hear
that soca would play a major part when the Soca Warriors play in
Germany.
Douglas Gordon Marketing Manager of Caribbean Prestige Foundation
remarked of soca music: “Its infectious rhythms draw people
from all walks of life together.
“Soca has the potential to be a world player in the international
scene.”
BWIA planes would also help in the promotion of Carnival 2006, as
passengers would receive packages.
Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs Joan
Yuille-Williams, winner of 2005 Groovy Soca Monarch Michelle Sylvester,
Roy Cape and Big Mike were all in attendance. |
