Here comes the...
Pavement radio station

By CECILY ASSON

THE popular corner at the top of Lord and Coffee Streets, San Fernando has finally gotten it’s own radio station.

And it’s free to the public, too!

Three weeks ago MCG, 104 FM’s radio personality, launched his very own 108.5 FM on the corner that never sleeps.

The 31-year-old freelance model continues to do his daily broadcast from the pavement.

The roadside radio station is located a short distance from the Coffee Street, San Fernando’s first-ever community station, WACK 90.1 FM, owned and operated by well-known arranger Kenny Phillips.

The small businesses, which include that of his business partners Whiskey and Alphie, who sell CDs and DVDs along the “Lord Street Strip” as it is now called, get free advertisements.

MCG also does free public service announcements.

“This idea has always been with me for this kind of community service,” said the recently married San Fernandian.

“The top of Lord Street is always busy.

“People from all walks of life, entertainers included, pass this way every day.

“Many of them lime here and it has been so for many many years.”

He calls it a success although he has been serving the public for just about three weeks.

MCG said come what may, 108.5 FM would always be on top Lord Street.

“We’re in it for the long haul, and Carnival 2K6 on Lord Street corner will be different,” he ended.

“I’m licensed with COTT to do what I’m doing.

“Since ‘going on air’ there has been nothing but encouragement from folks around.”
