Last
year, his “collabo” with veteran bard, Explainer, on
the classic track, Lorraine, took wings; the tandem work saw this
song soaring up the charts and enjoying, even now, a level of buoyant
radio ubiquity.
A few weeks ago, Bunji spun another curve, declaring his pole position
against rising crime, murder and mayhem, voicing with drop-dead
urgency: “I done with all bad boy lyrics.
“We cyar go on killing one another just so.”
Last week, Bunji flipped the script once more, showing that he’s
prepared to put the awful politics in local music where it’s
supposed to be -- in the garbage bin.
Take note: For years I’ve been remarking on the fact that
JMC Triveni, headed by Veerendra Persad, is ready for big league
status, but who the hell was really listening?
Now Bunji, in a show of utter confidence, is seriously engaged in
doing some tracks with this crossover band. In fact, one song is
already out of the loop --- the high-octane, road-ready track titled
Doi Festival, produced by Veerendra Persad and hot, new starboy
arranger/producer Dave Ramoutar, working out of his Side One Studio,
Orange Grove Road, St. Augustine.
Hello, Bunji has taken this track, stamped his authority on it and
the end result is pure fire.
With “radio love” I expect this number to go places,
and thanks Bunji for reminding those of us prepared to listen, that
in TnT, ours is a plural society and when it comes down to the music,
race must have no face.
None at all.
Lexo lie?
A little bit on producer Dave Ramoutar.
He’s now a “talent-for-hire” even on the stage.
Great on the keyboards, a studio whiz par-excellence and mark my
words, it’s just a matter of time before he blows up as a
volcano in local music.
More on the former Traffik’s key programmer Dave later on.
With more than $400,000 at stake in the upcoming TSTT International
Soca Monarch sweepstakes, Bunji will be defending his enviable crown
with an aggression never before seen, and I can assure you, it just
wouldn’t be easy getting that crown off his head.
Fire?
