THE chutney/rock band Keyz has been added to Massive Gosine’s Roving Calypso Comedy Tent.

The band, which hails from Aranguez, spoke to the Sunday PUNCH about their continuing success.

The members include Rishi Dookhan (drummer), Mukesh Ramoutar (lead guitarist), Rossi Narine (rhythm guitarist), Saffraz Hosein (bassist), Tariq Abdul (lead male guitarist) and Shennelle Sutherland (lead female guitarist).

“We are versed in playing mostly 80s rock music, more of the contemporary and soft rock.

“We also play reggae and a bit of Chutney and soca music,” explained Dookhan.

They usually perform a lot of cover versions but was quick to point out that they have original tracks which they will be releasing soon.

The only female member in Keyz, Shennelle Sutherland was added to the band when one of the original band mates heard her singing in an Internet café on Aranguez Main Road, Aranguez.

The 19-year-old girl said that she plays for fun and is presently still looking for a daytime job.

“I love music.

“I’ll go wherever it takes me.

“I was always interested in singing as an art form since my days in primary school,” she said.

Rhythm guitarist Rossi Narine said that he wants to take the band to an international level and all band members said that they played music not for the money it brought, but for the love of performing.

Their future plans include making trips to Guyana and Tobago to give the audience there “a taste of Trinidadian rock music”.

“We play a lot of gigs in weddings, birthday parties and anniversary celebrations and soon we will be releasing our own T-shirt line,” said Ramoutar.
