Top arrangers go for new tunes

THE top arrangers have made a statement.

Those arranging for the bands in the Large Band Category have all opted for tunes composed for the 2006 Carnival season.

In the Medium Category just five bands will play “vintage” selections.

As expected, it is the single pan bands and some of the small conventional bands that have gone for the “vintage” tunes.

Of the new tunes, Colours Again, composed by Mark Loquan and sung by Destra, proved to be the most selected with 16 bands choosing it. Defosto’s Sir Clive Bradley is next in line with 11 plays.

Two tunes come next.

They are This One For U, Bradley composed by Len “Boogsie” Sharpe and Anthony “Lexo” Alexis and vocalised by Ronnie McIntosh, and Good Times composed by Mark Loquan and sung by Denyse Plummer.

They both will be played by six bands.

Gaining three plays are High On De Pan sung by Eunice Peters and composed by Edwin Pouchet and Alvin Daniell, Hard Wine sung by Tunapuna Scanty and composed by Jason “Peanut” Isaac, Max It Up featuring Destra, and Judgement Day by Defosto.

With two plays are Enough is Enough sung by Steve Sealy and composed by Brian “Bean” Griffith and Alvin Daniell, and Roll It, the popular soca hit by Alison Hinds.

A number of selections are played just once and are listed in the breakdown of what the bands are playing.

There are 18 of them.

This year’s Panorama contains the broadest range of tunes selected for a long time and promises to be most interesting given the increased air play received, especially from FM 94.7.
