Leader Naya George squelches rumours and beams:
Invazion
still rippin’ hot!

By CECILY ASSON, Senior Reporter

BIG band Invazion coming out of Point Fortin is very much alive and anxious leader/owner Naya George wants his many fans to know that.

Just back from a successful tour of Grenada’s annual Regatta Festival, Naya revealed to Sunday PUNCH that the propaganda being spread up and down the Caribbean and North America are that the two-time Road March band “mash up”, is continuing to hurt its hard-working members.

“I’m telling you there’s no love in soca,” he snapped, “in this business one man wants all and he’ll do anything to keep you down.”

He’s however assuring those who have supported him over the years, that the rumours will not crush the hopes of the soca band that is considered the pride and joy of Point Fortin and is still very much a force on the music scene.

He laughed when he said, “Imagine even in Grenada people reacted in shock when we went on stage.

“The word on people’s lips over there too, is that we mash up.”

Naya disclosed that it was following a performance with KMC a few weeks ago in the Spice Isle that a couple promoters saw the band’s energised performance and decided to give him a bligh again.

“They admitted to me that they heard that we weren’t in the business again and they told me where they got it from.”

He told Sunday PUNCH that it was to his dismay after C2K6, unlike previous years, his bookings especially overseas suddenly dropped.

The former Road March champ said he was soon to discover that the propaganda mill was at work and one of the big players in the entertainment business was involved.

“For some reason that man (name called) keeps fighting me down and telling everybody that we mash up,” he revealed.

“Because he big in the business, promoters don’t ask questions and takes his word for it.” Imagine even a local radio station call me and ask if my band mash up?

He said he’s now trying to set the record straight and his recent performance at Colours of We Summer concert was the start.

“Grenada got the message that we still ripping and I hope the word gets around that Invazion is here to stay.”

Since the departure of soca diva Faye-Ann Lyons from the band a couple years ago, Invazion has not had a regular lead vocalist.

“We had Trini Jacobs this year but she has since returned to Miami,” he told Sunday PUNCH. We have people in mind but having a female vocalist is not our main focus, being the best band is,” he ended.
