REMEMBER the name Penny Bernard!

She’s the Trini-born American resident who has her eyes set on one day wearing the Miss Universe crown.

And she’s going to keep trying until all, because it’s the dream, Penny a 24-year-old Hoffstra University, Long Island student, has carried ever since she was a little girl.

Double majoring in education and psychology, Penny the reigning Miss Trinidad and Tobago/New York came home last December to prepare for the recent mini pageant to select a delegate to represent TnT at the upcoming Miss Universe and Miss World Beauty Pageants.

She didn’t make it, but it has in no way dampened her spirits.

“I liked the entire experience, it was enriching,” Penny beamed.

“I learnt a whole lot, I saw how different the girls were, and I liked the way how they were so open …”

Penny, formerly of San Fernando, migrated to the US 15 years ago.

According to her she never lost touch with home as every summer she packs her bag and heads down to sweet TnT.

And so it was last summer while packing for home that a relative told her about the Miss Trinidad and Tobago/New York.

“My brother-in-law told me I shouldn’t miss this opportunity and it was at the last minute that I entered this pageant.

“The rest is history.”

Penny walked away with the title and her next obvious step was the local pageant.

“I always knew of Miss TnT and I decided to enter,” she added.

The confident young woman made it to the final round of nine delegates in the pageant held at Club Zen, Port of Spain.

Kenisha Thom however was chosen as the representative to Miss Universe.

Penny is still in TnT enjoying her reign as Miss TnT/New York.

She has been making appearances across the country.

She is managed by mom Joan Bernard.
