LIKE the pirates
of old J’Ouvert, band leader Chris Humphrey is in quest of
the booty which in this case is the coveted Band of the Year title
with his 2006 presentation “Pirates of De Caribbean”.
However, unlike most pirates, Chris Humphrey & Associates have
found their “pot of gold” on 13 consecutive occasions
with their local theme presentations.
“Pirates of De Caribbean”, according to the mas veteran,
will be his 21st such portrayal which he has adapted from a movie
of the same name.
Using the characters but with a Caribbean slant, Humphrey and designer,
Elwin Johnson came up with 10 sections.
They are “Trini Treasure Seekers”, “Bajan Savages”,
“Grenadian Sea Devils”, “Lucian Conquerors”,
“Vincy Night-Slayers”, “Jamaican Sea Warriors”,
“Antiguan Clan of Thieves”, “Haitian Barbarians”,
“Cuban Destroyers” and “Bahamian Plunderers”.
The bandleader was quick to state that there will be no plundering
or “robbery” since all costumes are priced at “steal
of a deal” at $180.
And in keeping with his piratical theme, Humphrey & Associates
will be launching its C2K6 presentation aboard the Treasure Queen
on Sunday, November 20, 2005.
Boarding time is 4 p.m.
Some of Humphrey’s prize-winning presentations include “Bring
Back De Ole Time Days”, “Around De Coast”, “A
Tribute to the Grandmaster”, “A Tale of Two Cities”,
“Bills, Bills, Bills”, “Trinis Like to Gamble”
and “The Spirit of Trinidad and Tobago”. |
