High-profile judging panel declares ...
Homo queen
winner 2005

A HIGH profile judging panel headed by well-known designer Richard Young and included psychologist Ronnie John, brother of former United National Congress (UNC) Minister Carlos John declared “Miss Greece” winner of TnT’s premiere homo queen show “Queen of Queens” 2005!

Runners up were “Miss Dominican Republic” and “Miss Italy”.

The show, which kicked-off around 10 p.m. featured eight delegates who paraded in national costume and each did a lip sync routine.

“Miss Greece” who won $11,000 worth of cash prizes and other incentives, wore a wine colour evening gown and lip-synced a spicy ditty Strong Enough.

“Miss Italy” won a number of special prizes including “Best Talent”.

The delegates gave the packed St. John’s Hall, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain, a treat with their antics as they emerged one by one on the competition stage.

Five of the final eight out of nine delegates (Miss Aruba dropped out before big night) were eliminated in the first two rounds leaving “Miss Greece”, “Miss Italy” and “Miss Dominican Republic” to battle for the top spot.

“Miss Greece” is said to have been given the edge over her competitors with the answer to the question: “You are on a ship with your mother, lover and stranger’s child, which two would you save and why?”

The sold out show, which lasted almost six hours, was however described by one patron as “drab and dreary”.

“It was nothing like last year,” ‘she’ quipped, and “all I could say is ‘Mrs. Trump’ is laughing ‘her’ way to the bank.

“I hope the ‘queen’ gets ‘her’ money.”

Patrons forked out as much as $150 for a VIP seat in the hall.

“She” went on: “No national anthem, no ushers, no programmes …”

Two large buckets of condoms were given away to patrons on the night while every delegate educated the audience on AIDS.

The audience was warned that patrons found taking pictures would be ejected from the hall.

Organisers took precaution and assigned a plain-clothes officer said to be a member of the community to monitor persons in the audience who attempted to photograph the “ladies”.

TnT Mirror, however, did still manage to get a picture of the winner.

Among those who attended the show were actors Raymond Choo Kong and Deborah Maillard.

Other judges were dancer Linda Pollard-Lake, actress/singer Carla Gonzales, playwright Godfrey Sealy and two unidentified Grenadian designers.

Miss World hopeful Jenna-Marie Andre and Rhiann Vialva also graced the audience.
