Filipino nurses are running scared at the Mt. Hope Medical Sciences Complex because they believe hot-blooded young doctors are after them.
They are keeping to themselves and avoiding contact outside of their nursing duties, with the horny medicos.
According to a source, Trinidadians and other nurses are sometimes subjected to certain "passes".
"We really don't take them seriously, they sometimes are not too serious," commented one nurse.
However, the Filipino nurses are concerned about the "friendliness" of the local doctors.
Efforts by TnT Mirror to get a response from the Filipino nurses were unsuccessful.
However, contact was made with the Corporate Communication's department and one of the officers said that he was not aware of a situation regarding the Filipino nurses and doctors.
"What I do know is that there is a problem with communication.
"The Filipinos have a problem how Trinidadians relate to them," he said.
"People mistakenly refer to them as Chinese or even Japanese.
"Some people can't make the distinction and the Filipinos get offended," he added.
He also mentioned that getting information about Mt. Hope is a whole process, but he was bending the rules because too much false information is being carried in the media.
"Mt. Hope Hospital has its problems but certain people mustn't be afraid of the media.
"We, at Mt. Hope, must start talking to the media," he said
The communications officer said that everything was being done to make nurses from outside of this country comfortable.
The issue with the nurses and doctors comes in the wake of the recent Bill tabled in Parliament by Minister of Health John Rahael for amendment to the composition of the Medical Council.
The behaviour and professionalism of doctors was a focal point of former Minister of Health Colm Imbert in his contribution to the debate on the Bill.
His disclosure that a doctorate can be purchased for a mere $1,000 has sparked some controversy.
Nonetheless, Mirror is looking closely at the situation with the Filipino nurses. |
