A MENTALLY deranged woman, who walks naked in the village of Jeffers Crossing, Tabaquite Road, Rio Claro has caused stir among villagers.
The person, who has responsibility for her, allows men to visit her one-room shack and spend time with her.
"All types of men visit the woman and have sex with her.
"Sometimes she is carried away and left at the roadside in Mayaro," a village source said.
The source claim-ed that the woman is often stark naked in the street.
The source related the mental woman's woes: "The horror of contracting a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) or even the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has not raised any concern from the person in whose care she was placed.
"Relatives of the woman, including a religious leader, just turn a blind eye to her.
"Sometimes her breasts alone is exposed but most times she is naked.
"It's a shame and disgrace to our young ones."
The woman in her mid-fifties has been mentally challenged from a young age.
The source believes the woman needs to be given proper care and attention.
The woman reportedly walks in and out of the dilapidated room any hour of the night.
"Someone should look into this woman's safety.
"Men are already taking advantage of her due to her mental condition," a villager said.
The woman reportedly receives public ass-istance from the Government.
Villagers alleged that the money was not being spent on her well-being.
"The woman is suffering for food, we buy things for her to eat and attempted to give her clothes but her relatives refused the clothes.
"Her living conditions in the one-room ply shack are poor.
"She sleeps on a wet bed when it rains and goes for days without bathing.
"A high stench of urine normally follows her when she walks on the road," a villager disclosed.
Several attempts by villagers to get help for the woman from the social welfare office in Rio Claro have fallen on deaf ears.
Villagers claimed that the officer ask them lots of questions and do not take action to make the woman's life more acceptable.
A villager said: "They have never visited to see how the woman lives.
"We are now calling on Social Development Minister, Anthony Roberts to intervene and investigate the plight of the woman." |
