BLIND persons can now use the Nokia 6681 that allows them to install the Talks Programme to their advantage.
The programme allows for speech with all features on the phone.
The Talks Programme makes it simple for the visually impaired.
Chutney artiste Asha Kamachee, who has the programme, explains that the phone must be outfitted with the Simone software to access Talks.
She, however, said that the phone is very expensive, much above the cost a blind person could afford.
Kamachee said she received the phone valued at $3,200 from family members as a birthday gift last February 14.
"My family members all contributed towards the value of the phone," she explained.
Kamachee said her life is now more comfortable and private with her new phone.
She boasts: "I can now have my own phone book and can select the number I want to dial on my own.
"Before, I could not enjoy that privilege from my phone since there was no way for me to read the phone numbers."
Kamachee said she can now send and read messages to her friends.
"I use the calendar, calculator and alarm and do not have to depend on relatives for everything.
"Previously, I had asked sighted friends to stop sending text messages.
"This phone is efficient for the blind, it even tells you when the phone needs charging," she related.
Kamachee said she knows of some six visually-impaired persons, who have the phone.
She appealed for some system to be put in place by the Government whereby the phones could be subsidised to allow for all blind persons to own one.
"This is a must for the blind, if you are stranded and do not have money you can send a call me request for your relatives to call you," she explained.
Kamachee had high praise for bmobile. |
