‘PH’ ride to rape and death

By ANNA POLIAH
WHEN murder victim, Sarah Sampson, 20, did not show up at her boyfriend’s Cunupia home last Monday evening, he wondered if another man was involved.

Leroy Harris told TnT Mirror he telephoned Sampson at 4.30 p.m. and she told him she was close to his Hassarath Road, Cunupia home.

Harris, 21, said: “Sarah told me she was bringing something to eat and I should buy something to drink.

“When it was 5.03 p.m. I found it strange that she did not arrive.

“I called with intentions to ask her if the car took a detour but I did not get any answer.

“I found it strange since Sarah was a person, who always answered her phone.”

Harris, Sampson’s boyfriend of three years, said the thought of another man came to his mind when he could not find Sampson.

He said he called Sarah’s friends and cousin, Debbie, who she lived with, looking for answers.

“They all confirmed that Sarah did not have another man.

“Debbie even went through Sarah’s stuff in her bedroom looking for evidence of another man,” Harris told Mirror.

Harris said at 5.45 p.m. he began looking in Chaguanas for Sampson.

Sampson of Edward Street, Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville, was found dead in bushes in Tacarigua last Tuesday.

She was raped, strangled and left for dead.

She had boarded a “PH” taxi to Cunupia on Monday.

The car Sarah was travelling in (PBJ 8247) was reportedly hijacked in Cunupia.

Debbie described Sarah as a nice, quiet young woman.

She worked with a relative in a hairdresser shop in Couva.

Debbie said Sarah wanted to become a hairdresser and open her own business.

Debbie related: “She was 21, but immature and naïve to the dangers outside.

“We listened together to news of horrendous crimes being committed but Sarah never thought she would have faced such a fate.

“Sarah use to ask ‘how could they do something like that?’ when we heard horror stories.”
